Why Bushwalks by Train?
The biggest universal advantage is that it avoids bringing two cars for a car shuffle where walks start and finish at different locations.
Many people do not own a car e.g. many tourists, so that catching the train to access walks is their only option.
Train travel is also safer, environmentally friendly and mostly faster. There is no problem with parking or car safety.
For one or two persons, and especially when concession rates apply, train travel is cheaper than taking the car.
No cars are driven into our National Parks, hence no pollution or injury to wildlife
How were these walks selected?
All walks are 1.5 hours or less each way by train from Central Station.
The length of walks ranges from 5 to 28 kilometers and all can be walked in a day, the longer ones by more fit and experienced walkers.
An underlying aim was to minimize walking along sealed roads or other public vehicular roads. Most, but not all walks are on tracks and have adequate signage.
