14th August 2012

Km/time                         Kilometers in bold are shown on map

0.00/0.00      Start walk; Glenbrook Station

0.09/0.01       From Glenbrook Station turn left into Burford Parade; follow this to a T junction with Cowdery St., turn left and cross railway line on overhead bridge to another T junction with Station Street.

0.38 /0.06      Turn left into Station Street and then first right into Wright St.; go down Wright       St. to Cox St., again the first on right; go right into Cox St. and follow this to its     end past Dennis St. on the right

0.83/0.10      At end of Cox Street, walk past a locked gate onto a service road and follow this for about 25 m. to a T junction with another service road; go left and follow this wide service road gently downhill, ignoring trails on left and right to its end at a broad bend to the right (turning circle)

Note:-             You can reach this T junction of service roads more directly by turning right not left into Station , going to the end of Station St. to a locked gate on left and start of service trail ; take this to the T junction described above

1.40/0.17       Go to the left side of the turning circle to find the start of the walking track to Glenbrook Creek; (do not go back uphill on any of the trails that meet here)

1.61/0.24       About two thirds of the way down at base of cliff, track splits; take right track.

1.70/0.31      On right bank of Glenbrook Creek; cross Creek to find walking track along creek

1.79/0.36       On left bank of Glenbrook Creek; proceed upstream on sporadically visible track, staying on left bank to the confluence with Kanooka Brook entering on left

3.31/1.26      At Glenbrook Creek/ Kanooka Brook confluence; no easy crossing here; go back        about 50 meters to cross Glenbrook Creek on rocks.

3.60 /1.37     Cross Glenbrook Creek back to the left bank at a point approximately in line with ridge heading north ie about 70 meters downstream of The Duck Hole; after crossing, look for a well defined track leading uphill along the spine of the ridge; follow this to the top of the ridge.

4.44/1.55      On top of ridge; published notes show the start of a fire trail here; no evidence of this now, but there is a good straight gently ascending walking track along the ridge; follow this north-west, then west to a T junction with a proper fire trail.

8.15 /2.46     At T junction, turn right and follow fire trail

9.10 /2.49     Fire trail turns left to St Helena Crater ; continue straight ahead and a good walking track

10.82/3.19    Track junction; left track, signposted, goes to the ‘Lost World Lookout’; continue straight ahead

11.26 /3.26   Bunyan Lookout; excellent views; 12 minute time out

11.26 /3.38   Resume walk; to locate track down, walk back to end of track in approx. 10 m            from fire place; track down splits off at an acute angle on right; for the first 20 m or so the track goes along edge of low cliff, then down between two rock outcrops.

11.85/3.55    Track reaches low sandstone cliff; do not go down between narrow gap in cliff but find stone steps down.

12.15/3.59    Track reaches 4-way intersection just before Glenbrook Creek on rocks; take the left track and follow this to easy crossing of Glenbrook Creek;

12.30/4.07    At Creek crossing, then turn left on rock outcrop for about 10 m to stone steps up; take these to a sign boarded T track intersection

12.33/4.09    At t intersection signage:-; 500 m to Martins Lookout, right track; 1.4 km to Perch Ponds, left track; turn left and follow this good walking track; G creek now on left

12.44/4.12    Camp site and fire place

12.91/4.22    Track split; left track stops at creek; take right track

13.00/4.28    Signboard at T track intersection; track on right goes uphill to Martin’s Lookout; continue straight ahead to Perch Ponds 700 m..

13.61/4.39    Track crosses Magdella Creek

13.63/4.40    At Perch Ponds; clearing with several signboards; Springwood Station 4.4 kmon right up hill along Magdella Ck. Lunch here

13.63/4.52    Resume walk; follow track to Springwood Station along Magdella Creek, past Martins and Magdella Falls on right; this is a very pleasant walking track with plenty of scenery variations; Magdella Creek is crossed several times, and in the first 1.5 km there are green posts on each side of the creek at crossings, but arrows on these posts do not necessarily point in the right direction; creek crossings on remainder of walk are obvious.

17.21/5.49    Track split and signage– Springwood 800 meters on left track; right track goes to Raymond Road

17.70/5.58    End of Magdella Creek Track; picnic area; sealed road uphill to Springwood Avenue
